DeShawn Scott is an American businessman, strategist, speaker, mentor, and community contributor. He is the founder of The D5 Group and Sound United Media, hosts the Sound United Presents podcast, and owns Agnew & Jacobs, a company that sells his artwork nationwide.
After leaving high school in the tenth grade, he earned his GED at 26, followed by an associate degree from Trumbull Business College and a BA in Social Science from Hiram College with a focus on Business Management and Communications.
His leadership experience spans retail, food and beverage, and nonprofit sectors. He holds the Professional Certified Marketer credential from the American Marketing Association and is a graduate of the SBA Emerging Leaders program.
Scott currently produces the Ember Business Fundamentals and Growth Workshop series in partnership with the City of Warren, Ohio, helping first-time and early-stage business owners build lasting foundations.
As an artist and photographer, he has received regional and international recognition, including selection as the only Mahoning Valley participant in the global 24-Hour Project.
Community work remains central to his life. Scott has served on several boards and believes in serving on one at a time to stay fully engaged and effective. He currently serves on the advisory board of Bess Purpose Inc. Known for his empathy, resilience, and steady purpose, he continues to invest in people and community through his work and example.
He mentors, coaches, and teaches with care and conviction. A widower, he honors the life of his late wife, Erica L. Scott, whose spirit continues to shape his purpose and compassion for others.
A parent and proud Bäbu (granddad), he finds joy in family, creativity, and growth. His personal motto remains: “I never had the courage not to believe.”
