With Purpose and Grace

DeShawn Scott is an American businessman and community contributor. He founded The D5 Group and Sound United Media, hosts the Sound United Presents series, and owns Agnew & Jacobs, a company that sells his artwork across the country.

After leaving high school in the 10th grade, he earned his GED at 26. He went on to complete an Associate's degree at Trumbull Business College and a BA in Social Science from Hiram College, focusing on Business Management and Communications.

His leadership spans retail, food and beverage, and nonprofit sectors. He holds a Professional Certified Marketer credential from the American Marketing Association and is a graduate of the SBA Emerging Leaders program.

Currently, he’s producing the Ember Business Fundamentals and Growth Workshop series in partnership with the City of Warren, Ohio, supporting first-time and early-stage business owners.

As an artist and photographer, he received regional and international recognition—including being selected as the only Mahoning Valley participant in the global 24-Hour Project.

Outside of work, he’s into Afro-House music, dance, origami, gardening, and collecting chopsticks.

Community involvement is constant. He serves on the advisory board for Bess Purpose Inc. and works across groups to drive real outcomes. People know him for his resilience, loyalty, and clear sense of purpose.

He mentors, coaches, speaks, and teaches. As a parent, widower, and proud Bäbu, he honors the life of his late wife, Erica L. Scott. His personal motto: “I never had the courage not to believe.”
